MANHATTAN SHORT also screens for a full weeks run at Laemmle Cinemas in Santa Monica, California. This theater booking means all finalists selected will be eligible to enter the Oscar competition the following two years. MANHATTAN SHORT is now in compliance with the rules govening the Oscar Awards set forth by the Adademy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences. Click here to see rules for Oscar Qualification.

We DO NOT require premieres. At Manhattan Short, we believe short films should be viewed by as many people as possible. Film festivals that require a short film to be a premiere showing do the short film community a disservice. Short films still need to be actively promoted to raise awareness of the genre. Rules that restrict the distribution of short films are counter-productive.

Selected films will be asked to submit their films as an Apple ProRes Quicktime file. Frame rate of (23.98) Sound in Stereo not 5.1.

Finalists are announced on August 20 each year.
